There is a Chinese saying that goes: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.” For centuries, the greatest thinkers have suggested the same thing: Happiness is found in helping others.

Have you ever noticed  that when we give something to someone, even though we are giving something away, we actually gift ourself the gift of happiness.

“The happiest people are not those who receive  more , but those who give more.”

When we receive gifts we all feel happy, but not for long. Soon our joy fades away. But when we give, our joy stays forever. I feel the joy  of giving when I go in the winters with my mother to give thick blankets to poor people.I felt a similar joy when I went to the orphanage to give toys and books to the children. It was  so nice to see the smile on the children’s faces when they saw so many books and toys. I feel a different kind of joy when I give chocolates to my friends on my birthday or when I share my books and pens with my classmates when they need them.

But here I must mention that giving with the expectation of receiving Is not giving at all.

If we have  the expectation of receiving it kills the joy of giving.

I would like to end with a quote by Winston Churchill , he said ‘We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.’
