MUSIC:The Magical Therapy

Whether it is the blood-pumping rock, soul-touching blues and country, the catchy rapping, memorable folk and classical music, the dancing that comes only with pop; jazz; hip-hop and electronic music, all these are sure to sooth your soul, touch your heart, and make you come alive.

They say Google knows everything but do we know the origin of music? It probably emerged during the rise of languages-time immemorial. Music gave the slaves in the America and Europe hope as they struggled for survival. When the forces of nature were cruel to the people in the civilization ages they sang to the gods which gave them hope too. Music does follow a rhythmic pattern and the ones who learn how to manipulate an
d control this pattern are the true artists. Not everyone can become a great artist but a great artist can come from anywhere. This has been proven every century when deaf, blind, mute and handicapped people have shown their resilience by mastering instruments and singing and embracing life for not what it is but what it could be.

If music never existed…

Ever thought about what cinema would be without the anticipating and anxious background music?

What would you hum during the pressure of exams? What you would sing with friends and family?

What would you play on your favourite instruments? What would we dance on?

All these questions make it obvious that music is pivotal in our lives and its non-existence would make life indeed very bland and would take away the magic from us. As for me, I find it very hard to end a day without music and the advanced applications of today make it easy to keep up with the latest songs and trends in music.

According to me music does have a genre but it cannot be judged. If it touches your heart and brings out the best in you then it is music. It is not good or bad. With music people can express themselves and their feelings making those even in the most dire straits feel on top of the world.

Music: Gods Universal language

As the tune reaches my ears all the tensions and worries are long gone,
Then emotions of happiness and ecstasy are born;
Music makes me forget all my pain,
Brings out the sunshine when all I can see is rain;
Music is the ray of hope in the darkest of times,
Knowing that time moves forward, the clock always chimes;
Music is the escape from reality,
Just like the song of the lashing wild waves of the sea.
Music that friend that stays by your side,

Even after it is all over and your tears have dried,
It pulls you into a world of its own,
As it warms up a heart as cold as stone.
Music is the rhythm to which your heart beats,
It is the feeling that you get when your inner voice speaks,
It is the sound that leads you to the divine,
And  the positive energy that makes you feel alive.
Music can attain utmost purity,
And hence music is my therapy.

Some of the most common names in EDM are Avicii, Hardwell, Swedish House Mafia, The Chain-Smokers amongst millions of music producers; also to mention current trending popular artist Alan Walker.

Indian – Indian music is largely popularized by Bollywood. Some of the notable singers are Arijit Singh, Badshah, Amit Trivedi, Sunidhi Chauhan etc.

The genres in Indian music are Classical, Folk music and Modern Bollywood Music. Some of the most famous Bollywood songs are sung by Badshah and Arijit Singh currently.Bollywood is the most famous genre of Indian music.

Music is an essential and integral part of my life and I cannot imagine living without it because it not only helps me but everyone emotionally and gives us the confidence to deal with situations in life.

I hear music depending on my varying moods, which change my state of mind and emotions.

Listening to different genres of music gives us more information about bands and singers which eventually lead to healthy conversations.

To some students music is habitual during their study time as it gives them a break or energy to study, and for some it is like yoga which keeps a hormonal balance in their body.

I love to sit in my balcony staring at the sea with my headphones; listening to soft and calm music.

Music gives us peace, relief and makes us healthy; mentally and spiritually. We usually hear music while playing indoor games.

I love music since childhood, it has been a strong influence in my family and shall continue to be with me forever.…                                                                                                THE END…

MUSIC AS THERAPY

Therapy with the help of music is no longer a joke. It was discovered in ancient times that along with music being relaxing and entertaining, it can be used to cure various diseases like cancer and is also used in various rehabilitation centers for the client to recover from a drug or alcoholic addiction. Music therapy is an allied health profession consisting of a process in which a music therapist uses music to help clients improve their physical health. Music does not discriminate between the rich and the poor and is a luxury for all. It helps a person relax and enjoy his surroundings. It helps us get relieved of all the work and pressure we face in our lives, whether the pressure is on a child working hard to get good marks in his exam or on a adult working hard to please his boss, music can relieve him of the pressure and stress. There is no man who is not affected, touched and changed by music in the entire universe. Music under the right circumstances can influence the souls of even the hardest people and affect them in a positive way. Music helps to release and understand our emotions and helps us realize who we truly are. Music has the power to change a man in a positive way and make him change his life and to live with an objective. Nowadays we all listen to music but actual music is not which comes blasting out of our phones but that which touches our hearts and fills up with emotion.

Music As Therapy

It is indeed heard that music is a natural form of healing a person. We all hear music don’t we?

If yes why? Well it is because of melody makes us  feel of positive and  relaxes you.  Doctors state that infants when inside their mother’s womb react to outside sounds. After they are born they respond and show a change in their sleep cycle due to the  noise of patients, sounds produced by ventilators and all the machines present in the hospital.  The same doctors later noticed that the sound of peaceful music increase an  infant’s health as well as sleep pattern and keeps the mother stress free.  Well- known physiologist Dr. Daniel J. Levitin who studies neuroscience has shared that music improves the body’s immunity along and reduces stress. Most importantly it reduces anxiety in people. Dr Levitin noticed that patients in an emergency situation calm down after listening to music .  Well not to forget  the surgeon who too listens to his favourite piece before working his scalpel.

Music has been used for millenniums to cure patients. The word ‘AUM’ is a vibration which slowly relaxes the mind and body and was used by our ancestors to remain healthy for longer periods of time. We at Arya Vidya Mandir Bandra West too chant AUM for various purposes,  before our reviews, in the morning at Assemblies and of course in our Yoga classes. I would love to continue this even after leaving school. Music well plays an important role in our lives in the form of many things.

Music – A perfect harmony!

Music brings harmony. Music makes me feel calm and composed. I  start dancing gracefully and I  just cannot stop! I feel really light as if I am flying in the air. If I could see music I would describe it as a wave in the sea which sometimes has a tide high or low  or like a soft and silky piece of cloth which I could wrap around myself. Music has such an essence that I can smell its strawberry and aquatic fragrance before music is switched on. Music has a magical power and  positive energy that spreads its vibrations all over and soothes the mind of a restless person. Sometimes the music that we love just settles down in our mind and we keep singing it all day. It is actually capable of getting you out of the remorseful mood you are in and just make you more jolly and energetic. It basically taps into our emotions and memories! Music helps improve your attention skills as well as enhances learning. It can also cure many types of sicknesses.  Music lightens up people’s life.

Insecure…

The beats in my chest slowed down. Almost like they had faced the fact that I wasn’t going to live. I stared down at the streets. Tiny cars raced .I felt the saliva in my mouth dry .I stepped upon the edge of the building. One more step and it would be over. I would be free from birth and death. Free from pain.Immortal.Eternal.I looked down again and dizziness rocked my vision. Free.

And then something stopped me. No human but a melody. Its notes spun around my head. The soft, lilting female voice rose and fell. The words suddenly became clear.

Won’t you heal all my wounds?
Won’t you let me see the sky?
Not pitch black but a light blue.
So now the sun comes out
Raining joy on all.
Sing the Psalm, children.
The Psalm all about the
Beauty of life.

The beauty of life. What a joke. Life was dull. Nothing to live for. Failure knocked on every door I tried to open.

Who says, who says you’re not perfect
Who says you’re not worth it?
Who says you’re the only one that’s hurting?

A lot of people. Fat nose, round cheeks, dark skin. Who would consider me remotely pretty?

A voice said. You are pretty. What about the girl who sits three rows down? Her face is caked .You don’t need makeup to look good.

Sure. Like I don’t lack in the brainy part. The medal for being stupid and uncool should go to me.

Lies. You are the smartest person in that school.

Everyone else is so much smarter. If so many people tell me that the answer is wrong then it must be. I should just listen to them, keep mum.

Who has the right to tell you what to do? Only you.

I stopped. Mechanically I turned around and walked down the stairs. Then I turned around and raced into the city that never sleeps with a song in my heart.

Music is the ultimate cure…….

Music is a universal language. All species including animals, birds and humans relate to it and use music for different purposes. There is music in the chirping of the birds, in the falling rain drops, and in the rhythmic waves of the sea.

When experiencing physical and emotional pain, people often think that medication is the only cure. However, in recent years, various alternative healing methods have evolved. One of these healing methods is music therapy. Music therapy is the prescribed use of music and melodies to help restore, maintain and improve the emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being of an individual.

The immense power of music is also evident by the fact that since time immortal all religions have used it in some or the other form in their prayers- for instance, ‘Sankirtan’ is a form of prayer involving music and song by a group of people. Its therapeutic potential for both humans and animals has been scientifically proven.

Music therapy has shown positive effects especially for conditions like cancer, autism, depression, suicidal tendencies, children with emotional and behavioural disorders and survivors of childhood trauma. In the modern lifestyle full of stress and anxiety, music can play a pivotal role in reducing social aggression and violence. It is incredible that something used for leisure can be such a powerful healing agent. To quote the famous musician Billy Joel, “Music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music”

Musical Therapy

There is no doubt that music has the ability to impact the human body. After all, we respond to a beat by tapping to the rhythm, more than we respond to a flashing light or image.
Music therapy benefits patients of all ages: from using lullabies to help the development of premature babies to playing big band songs to boost elderly Alzheimer patients’ spirits and appetites. It really does not matter what music is used, although classical music is thought to be more relaxing to the human body.
Music, both vocal and instrumental, is considered to be of divine origin and is closely identified with the Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The Goddess Saraswati, depicted with Veena in hand, is venerated by all students and performers of Indian music as the divine patron of music and learning.
Similarly in the Hindu mythology, Krishna, by means of his flute, fills himself and the universe with bliss. He distracts everyone and everything from normal activity and enchants them to revel in ecstasy. His music explodes upon the world and society insisting that all else be forgotten. It is time, it proclaims, to join in his symphony of joy, to frolic in the forest, to scamper in play, to realize every dream that one has ever dreamed in his world of infinite possibility.

Music is the prayer that every heart sings.

Every morning when we wake up our day starts with listening to the chirps of birds, the rustling of leaves, the ringing of the temple bell and moreover the noise of people on the streets. All of these seem so usual, but if you actually listen to it peacefully; it is music.

For some of us music may just be an activity which we do when we are free. For some it may also be something useless, but at the same time it may also be a healer for somebody else.

Indian mythology tells us that music is prevalent even in the heavens. Goddess Saraswati plays the veena, lord Shiva plays the damru, Krishna plays the Bansuri, and Nandi plays the mridangam. When we go to a temple, a church, a mosque or a gurudwara we hear the havan, pooja, the mass, or the kirtan. This is a form of music. For that matter a child’s cry is also music.

All this makes it clearly evident that any sound that emphasizes on a feeling is music. Thus, music has the power to help and heal. It has the power to attack and defend. It is after all the prayer that every heart sings.

MUSIC IS THE ULTIMATE CURE….

Music is the greatest creation of man, which touches the soul and also helps man to sympathetically manifest unspoken desire and humanity in him. The effect of music in man is what that separates him from other animals. Due to the high effect of music in the life of human being, it is capable of breaking boundaries to unit people from different background and cultural heritage. Indeed, there is lots to say about music being one of the most important factors in the life of human being of all races and religions.

Music is the one thing that can appeal to millions of people from different parts of the world and uplift them emotionally. For that reason, music can easily be used as a sign of peace-offering when there is chaos between people of different origin and background.

Whether you are a music enthusiast or not, the best way you can express your feelings: anger, love, passion, joy etc is simply through music. It is rightly said that when words and letters fail the next best option is music. You will be able to express the intent of your heart through music which ordinarily may not be possible for you to either do in words or letters.

In most cases, doctors and therapists normally recommend soft music for their patients. This is because, with the effect of the music in the heart and entire being of a sick person, there will be revival of hope of living, joy of existence and happiness in the mind of the sick person making it easy for the him or her to respond positively to treatment.

Music can best be described as wonderful force that is capable of bonding people together and instituting international brotherhood, love as well as peace.

Music is a prayer that every heart sings…..

Music is the melody that is present in every part of nature.  It is the pleasant sound that leads us to experience harmony and higher happiness.  It plays an integral and essential role in our life.  It is a key to the soul, which helps in making us physically and mentally healthy.

Music is believed to be divine in every religion.   All religions believe that music is a medium to reach the eternal God.  It is common to recite mantras and other hymns in praise of God during religious ceremonies.  Music creates a peaceful and calm aura in the surrounding.  It takes us to the meditative state of mind.  When we are overwhelmed or stressed by daily distractions around us, listening to our favourite music instantly calms us down.

Music is said to be one of the most ancient healing techniques.  Music therapy can greatly improve overall quality of life.  Music therapy is advised for expecting mothers for the healthy growth of the foetus.  Doctors use music therapy for various other ailments.

Music is a great way to make bonds between people.  Youngsters enjoy going to rock concerts, while older people enjoy calm tunes.

Music is one of the greatest creations of nature.  It can be rightly said that life without music is just like the earth without the sun and the moon.

Music is the prayer every heart sings…

“He who sings, scares away his woes.”  “There is nothing in the world so much like prayer, as music is.” are some old, but apt quotes.

Some people like to listen to music, many people like to sing, while others, can play musical instruments. Music nourishes us in all its forms. It always makes us feel positive in our outlook to life. In Hindu mythology, Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, arts, wisdom, music & learning. She is shown playing the veena.

The Hindu deity lord Krishna is commonly depicted in a relaxed pose, playing a flute.  When lord Shiva plays the Damru, he plays Omkara – the sound of Aum.

Even in Greek mythology the god Orpheus was celebrated as a singer and lyre player and goddess Athena played the Aulos (Flute).

The Greeks also believed that music could have a beneficial effect on both the mind and body of the listener.

During festivals we celebrate by playing music.  It is a huge part of wedding celebrations in all cultures. Religious functions are incomplete without devotional music.

Hence we can easily conclude that music is a therapy that every person needs

Music The Essence Of The Life

Music is the harmony of life,
For vegetables and fruits, music is the chopping sound of the knife.
Music makes peace and keeps one’s calm,

For farmers, mooing of cows is their music itself in the farm.
Music for a mother is when her baby cries.
The sound of a vibrating oven is the music for delicious pies.
Quarreling students make music for teachers,
Moaning of waves provides rhythm to sea creatures.
Look around; there’s music everywhere,
It selflessly provides inestimable healing and care.

“MUSIC” – The song of life

Music as Therapy Related image

Life is not a bed of roses and the thorns that prick an individual make the mind restless. One starts looking for a cure to attain peace – one of the key ingredients for a happy life. In recent times, a new therapy is known to create wonders – music therapy.

Right from our infancy, we have been exposed to music. The first song we heard was our mother’s lullaby; the best antidote for our mindless wailing. We are introduced to film, classical, rock and other trendy music as we transition into our teens. Indeed, music is considered as a phenomenal stress-buster. Our mind gets immersed in the music. It feels as if a huge load has been lifted from our shoulders. Renowned drummer Jess Bowen had once said, “The power of music can change one’s mood”.

Bob Marley had once said, “One good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain”. “Music is the prayer that every heart sings”. I think all music lovers would admit that music is the one that makes them feel alive, and make them have a positive attitude towards life. Let’s sway to the song of life :- Music.
