Astronomy is worth gazing ,

Through my telescope amazing ,

Oh ! heavenly celestial bodies I see ,

Some very far away , some close to me .

Universe made up of galaxies many ,

Black holes , Nebulae , The Big Bang Theory ,

Our Milky Way galaxy stands among them bright ,

The Solar System from which has its birthright .

The Sun , a hot ball of gases in the centre ,

Jupiter and Saturn the Solars mentor ,

We study meteors , asteroids and shooting stars ,

Constellations of various shapes ; 88 numbered jars .

Rotation and Revolution we know ,

Day and Night , Seasons , Waxing and Waning of the moon to glow,

Our Scientists send satellites in space ,

Moons , new planets , Saturn’s rings and stars they grace.

Pluto is not a planet any more ,

Neither a planet or satellite , just a folklore ,

It’s journey around the Sun is 248 earth years ,

A day on Pluto is 6 days and 8 hours , a very slow year .

Astronomers now exoplanets find ,

Exoplanets revolving around other stars and their kind ,

Liquid water in these stars is found ,

Life may exist then in new planets revolving them around .

Earth has oxygen , water and life ,

If no water , living a strife ,

The atmosphere keeps us nice and warm,

Renews  the ozone which keeps us away from harm .

Did you know India put 104 satellites in space ,

Puts a beaming smile on my face ,

I feel an Indian so proud ,

Astronomy is truly fascinating , I say aloud !

Unforgettable Childhood Memories

A memory peddler came to my house one day,

To ask if I had any memories to give away.

I thought,  memories? I may have one to spare,

After all, when it comes to memories, everyone has a fair share.

I remembered, faintly – when I was but one,

Laughing and playing and having so much fun.

I recalled then, a time when I was two,

Painstakingly learning to tie my shoe.

I recollected immediately, when I was three,

Being innocent and playful and gloriously carefreRelated imagee.

I thought then of when I was four,

Arguing with my mother over who she loved more.

I remembered celebrating the birthdays ages at five, six, and seven,

When blowing out candles and receiving presents were like being in heaven.

I remembered running,  and playing on the beach,

When everyone I met had something new to teach.

I  recalled the time when I was old enough to kno

What ‘photosynthesis’ was all about and how it made plants grow.

Memories made with the people we love,

Feel like little glimpses of heaven sent from above.

Good times come and go, but memories last forever,

They are a bond between you and your past that nobody can sever,

For memories are indeed timeless treasures,

That exceed far beyond ordinary measures.

I told him, ” I am sorry, they’re all too precious to give away!”

And that’s the story of how the ped
dler left empty-handed that day.

I vividly remember those days when I felt sad about not having a younger sibling.

Soon my prayers were answered! I finally had a companion in my lovely baby sister. I fondly recollect the day she was born.  I went to the hospital and carried her in my arms. The look in her eyes when she first saw me is something that I will never forget for years! I felt extremely happy as a sister when she uttered my name for the first time.Related image

Every passing year since then has been more and more memorable. She jokes, plays, fights and even complains about me but our love for each other has only increased. Today when I flip through the old photos, all those fond memories come gushing to me.

My sister is very caring and loving. She is always there to comfort me when I feel low. She is my life companion in whom I can confide my secrets just as I share many a funny moment. Life without her is truly unimaginable!

Golden Memories

The best time of my life is my time  in  school

I study  Newton, Pascal and Joule.

Not coming to school on time, I am given a  punishment

So being on time for me is a  great achievement.

When finding the value of x, y and zRelated image is a great task

Now I can solve the trickiest of the sums you’ll ask.

When your  friends’ tiffin seem tastier than yours

And eating it more like monkeys than matures.

And begging for games period is our part time job

Thinking about these memories just makes me sob.

Having those amazing times with friends and chatting endlessly

Oh how I love this and sometimes  miss them

I really love  the time

When we study, play and sing rhymes.

And  I look at these times and admire our place

Life simply moves to  another phase.

Image result for childhood memories wallpaper

Image result for memories wallpaper

MUSIC:The Magical Therapy

Whether it is the blood-pumping rock, soul-touching blues and country, the catchy rapping, memorable folk and classical music, the dancing that comes only with pop; jazz; hip-hop and electronic music, all these are sure to sooth your soul, touch your heart, and make you come alive.

They say Google knows everything but do we know the origin of music? It probably emerged during the rise of languages-time immemorial. Music gave the slaves in the America and Europe hope as they struggled for survival. When the forces of nature were cruel to the people in the civilization ages they sang to the gods which gave them hope too. Music does follow a rhythmic pattern and the ones who learn how to manipulate an
d control this pattern are the true artists. Not everyone can become a great artist but a great artist can come from anywhere. This has been proven every century when deaf, blind, mute and handicapped people have shown their resilience by mastering instruments and singing and embracing life for not what it is but what it could be.

If music never existed…

Ever thought about what cinema would be without the anticipating and anxious background music?

What would you hum during the pressure of exams? What you would sing with friends and family?

What would you play on your favourite instruments? What would we dance on?

All these questions make it obvious that music is pivotal in our lives and its non-existence would make life indeed very bland and would take away the magic from us. As for me, I find it very hard to end a day without music and the advanced applications of today make it easy to keep up with the latest songs and trends in music.

According to me music does have a genre but it cannot be judged. If it touches your heart and brings out the best in you then it is music. It is not good or bad. With music people can express themselves and their feelings making those even in the most dire straits feel on top of the world.

Music Is Hope – Aashayein

Victor Hugo said , “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent” I would not be lying if I say that music is my best friend. Every song I hear has a different meaning and somehow I can relate to most of the songs I listen to. As soon as I put on my headphones, I am transported to another world all together, a serene world which has only two componRelated imageents, music and me. Being a sportsman, I have faced many problems and failures, but music teaches me how to deal with them and move on.  It also has the ability to unite people, irrespective of their nationality, colour, gender etc. Music can be classified into various genres, like Pop, R&B , Rock, Jazz and so on. Because of the diverse culture in our country, we  listen to different kinds of music like classical music, Qawwalis, Western music, Western –  classical music in India. This  goes on to show that music has so much variety, that it would be impossible to get bored of it..

Nowadays, majority of the songs  in  the Hindi film industry may not be as melodious and meaningful as they were once before.  But there are some which are so melodious that its difficult to stop humming  So I would request you to keep enjoying music and sing –

Kuch paane ki ho aas aas, kuch armaan ho jo khaas khaas, aashayein…

Indian music, commonly referred to as ‘Sangeet’ is inherent to mankind. Being derived from myImage result for indian music and mythologythology, it has appeared to form reputation as the roots of a sapling that nurtures growth.  Music has emerged spontaneously, since the beginning of documented culture, parallel in all known human societies. Turning a blind eye to all human atrocities, it has appeared to transcend time, place and culture. More importantly, this product of ‘pure culture’has roused curiosity, only to manifestthe reigning culture.

The ancient Indians believed in the divine origin of music and considered the purest form of sound to be equal to cosmic energy. As a result, music and religion were always closely intertwined.

They documented music in the form of Poetries, Shlokas, Bhajans, Aartis and the most famous – Dohas. Always being the backbone of most Vedic literature these life-like blossoms of Indian history continue to bloom till date only because of the works of some great music artists like Kabir and Rahim.

In the given Doha, Rahim says that to get through this life and world, the only way is through God (Ram).

Hence not only historians but we can also come to a conclusion that the influence of myth
ology on Indian music has been vast and undeniable. From the Vedic times to the modern day, songs about gods have been central to the music of India. Whether it is the naming of the ragas or the invention of music instruments, we Indians have always turned to scriptures and mythology for inspiration. We do not just tell stories about our gods and heroes but sing them for music is divinity manifest.

Music is one of the most important and powerful influences in everyone’s lives.

Broadly categorizing music into 2 Genres – Indian & Western.

Western -There are different genres in music such as Pop,Electro House,Deep house, Retro, Rock, EDM, Jazz, Reggaeetc. which appeal to different people according to their preferences &moods.

I personally prefer EDM(Electronic Dance Music) which is a broad term covering sub-genres of dance music like, House, Electro, Techno & Deep etc.

Some of the most common names in EDM are Avicii, Hardwell, Swedish House Mafia, The Chain-Smokers amongst millions of music producers; also to mention current trending popular artist Alan Walker.

Music availability has also transformed over the years from analog to now digital sources like mp3s & wave files which can be downloaded or streamed across various apps like Saavn, iTunes & the most popular music app – YouTube.

Indian – Indian music is largely popularized by Bollywood. Some of the notable singers are Arijit Singh, Badshah, Amit Trivedi, Sunidhi Chauhan etc.

The genres in Indian music are Classical, Folk music and Modern Bollywood Music. Some of the most famous Bollywood songs are sung by Badshah and Arijit Singh currently.Bollywood is the most famous genre of Indian music.

Music is an essential and integral part of my life and I cannot imagine living without it because it not only helps me but everyone emotionally and gives us the confidence to deal with situations in life.

I hear music depending on my varying moods, which change my state of mind and emotions.

Listening to different genres of music gives us more information about bands and singers which eventually lead to healthy conversations.

To some students music is habitual during their study time as it gives them a break or energy to study, and for some it is like yoga which keeps a hormonal balance in their body.

I love to sit in my balcony staring at the sea with my headphones; listening to soft and calm music.

Music gives us peace, relief and makes us healthy; mentally and spiritually. We usually hear music while playing indoor games.

I love music since childhood, it has been a strong influence in my family and shall continue to be with me forever.…                                                                                                THE END…

Music and festivities during Durga Puja

What better therapy than to enjoy a musical Durga puja after the monsoons.

The magical time of festivities and excitement has come…Durga Puja is approaching. Even the improved and pleasant weather reflects it. Joy and anticipation are in the air. Historically, Durga Puja began in Bengal but all the states and communities in India have joined in, one way or the other. It is a celebration of Goddess Durga’s victory over the evil demon Mahishasur –  the conquest of good over evil. And what better way to express this joy of oncoming festival other than through music?

The preparations include shopping and the making of marvellous sweets, whose scent waft through the air, tempting all passers-by. Plays and acts are chosen and rehearsed, not to mention music is also chosen and practised. In Bengal, RabindraSangeet is an integral part of all occasions.

The musical range is vast – Indipop, classical, semi-classical, popular film songs and of course devotional songs in the honour of the Devi.

With the dawn of Navaratri on Mahalaya, mantras are chanted sonorously and broadcast widely. Clanging of bells can be heard in the temples and homes every day for the evening aarti. The ritual drummers beat out mind-blowing rhythms on their massive dhaks (drums) as the devotees perform the dhuno dance. These are the sounds traditionally heard at Durga Puja and without them the festival is incomplete. The customary ululation to ward off evil spirits and the blowing of conch shell resound in the air when the pujas are performed on Mahashtami. Even the visarjan has musical accompaniments of bhajans and chanting.

One feels sorry to bid goodbye both to the pandaals and the goddess as well as the food-stalls which serve delicious treats as prasad. The only consolation is that the Devi will be back next year and the music and festivities will begin once again.

Music – A perfect harmony!

Music brings harmony. Music makes me feel calm and composed. I  start dancing gracefully and I  just cannot stop! I feel really light as if I am flying in the air. If I could see music I would describe it as a wave in the sea which sometimes has a tide high or low  or like a soft and silky piece of cloth which I could wrap around myself. Music has such an essence that I can smell its strawberry and aquatic fragrance before music is switched on. Music has a magical power and  positive energy that spreads its vibrations all over and soothes the mind of a restless person. Sometimes the music that we love just settles down in our mind and we keep singing it all day. It is actually capable of getting you out of the remorseful mood you are in and just make you more jolly and energetic. It basically taps into our emotions and memories! Music helps improve your attention skills as well as enhances learning. It can also cure many types of sicknesses.  Music lightens up people’s life.

The Guru and his Disciple

Drona, a great teacher,
He taught many legendary creatures,
Arjuna was his favourite disciple,
He liked him for his pious principle.

Drona promised him to make the best,
In any form of archery test,
One day a tribal came to drona seeking knowledge,
And requested him not to acknowledge.

The master asked for his caste,
The tribal revealed the fact atlast,
Drona told him he would only teach upper caste,
And to leave for the palace in great fast.

The tribal eklavya made an idol of his master,
And became an invisible archer,
Once drona and arjuna came to the forest,
The former considered the tribal’s archery the greatest.

Drona asked for tribal’s master,
And was surprised to see his answer,
And demanded his thumb as a gift,
Eklavya offered it as a token of great respect.

Once upon a time, there was a Kuru Dynasty,
The princes of the empire ,
Were brave, courageous and feisty.
Pandavas and Kauravas they were called,
Kauravas were arrogant and spoilt.
But the Pandavas had faith in the lord.

Yudhishtir, Bheem, Arjun, Nakuland and Sahadev,
Were dutiful, chivalrous and brave.
Duryodhan, dushahan, karna and shakuni,
Sowed seeds of enmity.

Draupadi, the five Pandava’s wife,
Was the actual cause of strife.
She was arrogant so,
Arjun won her with his knowledge of the bow.

But Draupadi had to be divided between the five,
So people called her many names,
which stung like bees of a hive.

Yudhishtir and Shakuni played a game of dice,
Yudhishtir lost everything,
Thanks to Shakuni’s vice.

So Draupadi was dragged into the court,
To save her dignity, sadly nobody did vote.

Draupadi, chaste even though,
For vengeanence Bheem took a vow,
“He would drink dushasan’s blood
Also the hundred brothers would soon be mixed in mud.”

The brothers started the fight,
They fought with all their might.

All the Kauravas were dead,
As their grandsire lay on his death bed.
The Pandavas won the battle,
People were slaughtered like cattle.

It was a new beginning,
As the death of Shri Krishna,
Marked the kaliyug coming
